Wow, last night was awesome. After a long day at school, I went to the SRC to compete in Globefest with the Canadian Club. In Globefest, you get to play 5 mini-games, highlights including Sumo Wrestling and Dodgeball! We did pretty alright and squeeked through to the semi-finals. During Dodgeball, however, one of our girls got injured and we had to play shorthanded.
We had a 2 hour break so we decided to go to the pit to warm up... would have been at the much nicer Gallery had there not been a 5 dollar cover. In the semifinals we competed in a team relay for a chance to play the other Canadian Club (Dave's team) in the final. The semifinal ended up being amazingly close. We had a 20 second lead heading into the final leg... this memory game. I was the designated "flipper" and we were trailing. The other team finished first and we had 20 seconds to complete our task. Long story short, I dove to reveal the last 2 squares with 2 seconds left, good enough to send us through to the finals...
And the finals was easily the best way to cap a night... extreme Dodgeball! The odds were against us (in fact Dave pretty much guaranteed a victory before we started). We had to borrow a girl from one of the other teams because we were shorthanded, and in addition one of our girls couldn't throw because she had a shoulder injury. Dave's team started the game with all but one of the balls but missed the opportunity to take us out early. It was a pretty long game with shots going back and forth. We lost some guys early but hung in there and started to pick them off. The turning point was when one of our girls got Dave when we hasn't looking... that seemed to shift momentum completely to our side. We continued on to win the game and the water bottles and chocolate-filled pinatas that came with it. Lots of fun and celebration to be had by all. Very difficult to explain exactly how much fun this activity was. You would have to have competed with us to know. It's unbelievable how retardidly fun a child's game can be.
