I meant to update this journal before I left but forgot to during the madness of the rush. Anyway, I'm in London right now, trying to get adjusted to jet lag. I am staying with a family friend right now. Let me just say that his flat is absolutely spectacular. I can't believe how different it looks from the last time I came here (Summer 2001). He did a great job renovating it himself. Well it's nice to be back and hopefully I can make figure something out tonight as to what I want to see here before I leave on wednesday. It's certainly bizarre when you come on your own. I can't exactly just go for a drink by myself (still haven't mastered the making great conversation with complete strangers yet). Back to Vancouver of the last few days:

1) While transferring buses and sorting through my file on Tuesday, Telus decided to call me back to ensure that I was still not interested in continuing my cell phone service. Let me just sum up a long story short by declaring that without a doubt, Telus is the worst company I have ever dealt with: shitty plans, ridiculous user charges, and now, extremely rude customer service. There's nothing quite like being asked why you are dissatisfied with the company's service and then being told "No, you're wrong!" in response to your answers.

2) I semi-won my court case. I had original been assessed 100% liability and had it reduced to 50%. Unfortunately I shot myself in the foot. Each side gave conflicting stories was forced to take my word or that of the defendent. It took him about 30 minutes but in the end he believed me, which is nice because I was actually telling the truth. Thanks to a temporary brain lapse when I mentioned the word "fast" (don't know why, as I didn't have enough distance from start to stop to have been travelling over the speed limit) he concluded that I was driving too fast, hence also giving me liability. Oh well, better than nothing I guess.

The thing that bugged me the most was that the defendent and her witness both lied under oath. I mean, at what point are you forced to question your values? These people swore before God to tell the truth and they clearly fabricated their story. Really disappointing and it made my cross examination much more difficult as I was not prepared for them to lie about which lane we were travelling in. I suppose it's possible they simply remembered incorrectly (as they did not a write a statement following the accident) but I think it's doubtful. Not to mention they were playing incredibly stupid during my cross examination, which threw me yet another curveball.

Alright enough talk, time to get back to Europe. Peace.
